Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Visiting specialist for paediatric behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders at Rainbow Children’s hospital and Centre for Child development and Disabilities – CCDD, Bangalore)

Clinical experience

Of the 5 years of my post MBBS integrated course, She has worked as a Junior Resident for 3 years and as Senior Resident for 2 years in the Departments of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences under the supervision of Prof. Shoba Srinath, Senior Professor, NIMHANS. She has trained like a clinician-neuroscientist in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has five years of extensive clinical experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric disorders more focused in the area of neurodevelopmental disorders, which includes evaluating patients, administering various scales, working in out-patient and in-patient clinical services of the hospital, working in child and adolescent psychiatry emergency services. She has vast experience in diagnosis and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, with special focus on autism, but also including ADHD, cerebral palsy, neurometabolic disorders, regression, mental retardation, cognitive delay, speech and language delay, childhood depression, early onset psychosis, etc. She has been consulting patients independently throughout her senior residency.

Research experience

She's currently trained in image acquisition and analysis of MRI, Diffusion Tensor Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. She has been involved in some work in Resting state functional MRI of children with autism. She has worked on projects involving transcranial magnetic stimulation in adults with depression and schizophrenia. She has designed and conducted experimental studies including family history studies in autism, obstetric risk factors in autism, media use in autism etc.

Community and volunteering experiences:

She has given lectures on effective power-point presentation and communication skills in the institute and outside. She also voluntarily conduct community workshops for adolescents and have developed a module for community approach for training adolescent girls in life skills, stress management and coping. She has given lectures on neurodevelopmental disorders, autism and its neurobiology, evaluation and assessment of children with neurodevelopmental disorders. She has also addressed issues in schools about role of teachers in identifying emotional and developmental needs of children. She has addressed parent groups on topics related to parenting, challenges during child development, etc.
