Dear Colleagues and Friends

At the onset, let me wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!

On my travels and doing various workshops, seminars, and talks across the country, I have realised that many of you now feel the need to learn and set up Developmental clinics .

Many of you are able to diagnose conditions such as ASD, developmental delays, but don’t know how to guide the parents. It is also because there are so far and few trained therapists to assist you all.

Understanding this need, the Centre for Child Development and Disabilities (CCDD) has partnered with Totsguide.com to bring to your door step programs to help you manage children with developmental delay.
We want to establish partnership with you all, by training, giving the you-know- how of this.

Since we have always focused our programs on parent based intervention, the programs need minimal support of therapists to execute it.
You will appreciate that these programs are developed over years of experience and by a highly qualified team of psychologists, special educationists, occupational therapists along with me. These are tested, validated and have been presented at various national and international conferences. To take this forward, we are starting a newsletter to update you all on various aspects of child development.

Knowledge sharing is an activity through which information, skills, or expertise is exchanged among people, friends, families, communities, or organizations. There are many benefits achieved by sharing the knowledge with others. It helps me to grow, stay motivated, generate recognition and new ideas and improve operational efficiency.
Please do join us in this endeavour of taking forward programs to help the needy children put their best foot forward  by diagnosing them early and enrolling them in the intervention programs at the earliest. I would also appreciate if you all can let us know where you need help so that we try and focus our attention on that.

To start with, may I request you all to start tracking milestones in all children or atleast the high risk infants. All that you have to do is to log on to www.totsguide.com and click on Track and Act. This gives the milestones a child needs to achieve in the four areas of development, namely social, communication, cognition, and motor. The computer generated score helps you to know if the child is delayed or at risk of delay or developing well. Track  and Act can be done periodically to monitor development - starting from 4 months of corrected age till 5 years. This is a validated tool and takes about 5-7 minutes to do and a score is generated within seconds. The one caution to exercise is that a child must be able to do a task atleast 6 to 7 times before passing the item. Track and Act is very simple to use - any person can be trained, even parents can do this and send you the score. Ideally, your office secretary or a nurse or a resident can do this. You can see the demonstration video on this youtube link -https://www.youtube.com/watchv=cOhbsNX_2Gc, as well.

Looking forward to your support and participation in our various programs, which we will introduce in days to come.

Warm regards

Dr Nandini Mundkur
